![]() ![]() I'm running around the building knocking on doors and asking crazy-sounding questions to everyone, but no leads. I think some other device is throwing off a bunch of static, and as such, isn't showing up as a coherent SSID that we can blame. I know that the FCC works hard to prevent this, but it seems to me that a device that was specifically designed to play nice would do exactly that. My sub-hunch is that something is messing with the 5Ghz band by accident. We live in a denser, urban area, but it's still hard to imagine that someone's router or extender could cause all this chaos - and through a floor of concrete at that. Unfortunately, we can't see a single SSID that would be the culprit. To skip to the good part: both myself and the resident IT folks from the other offices have a hunch that some new device in the building is knocking out our 5 Ghz bands with interference. Though not an IT person by trade, I have an intermediate background in networking, and used to work tech support for an iPad-based point-of-sale company, so I have an understanding of networking basics, and a knack for troubleshooting wifi weirdness. The same thing is happening to the offices next to us and below us! We've been happily internetting for months when suddenly our devices started dropping off the network completely. I setup and maintain the wifi and internet for our small startup here in Brooklyn. ![]()
